Update!

Jeff's Grandma has been staying with us since the end of February. She is going through radiation, since there are no facilities in small town Wyoming she decided to come to Utah. We have LOVED having her here. Morgan adores her and smiles and laughs every time she is around her. It has been so fun getting to know her better, and I love hearing all of her stories about her life. It's so amazing how life has changed from when she was young to now. She and Ian have had a good time doing dishes together in the evening. Come next week when she's gone I'm really going to miss having her around, not only because my dishes won't always be done anymore, but because just having her around has been a joy. Jeff has been taking her to her treatments and goes into work in the wee hours of the morning (1 am) so that he can take her, so he is usually in bed by 5 pm, and it's been great having someone to talk to at night and watch TV with.

Birthday Schmirthday!

I secretly get excited about my birthday every year. But since leaving my mothers nest at 18 they have NEVER been the same. On Wednesday I turned 34, hoping to wake up to the smells of hot pancakes on the griddle, bacon frying and fresh squeezed o.j. (o.k. I never got fresh o.j.). The anticipation of my birthday was the best feeling in the world as a child. We always got special attention with reminders from Mom and Dad. We'd plan friend birthday parties and sleepovers, we'd plan what we were going to eat, what kind of cake we were going to have and most of all what gifts we were going to get. I never minded going to school on my birthday because Mom would always make the best treats. In 5th grade my Mom had balloons and candy bars delivered for the whole class.
After all these years I've finally come to realize (yes, I'm a little slow) that the reason it's so different is because life keeps on going it doesn't stop like it did as a child (although maybe it should). I should have taken the day "off", but that would mean not changing any dirty diapers, no breakfast or lunch for Ian and no dinner made (I guess we could have made a run to Wendy's).
My husband did take me out to lunch (Carinos) and then we went to Sears and bought a new food processor. He also brought me flowers and a very sweet card. So, I can't complain it wasn't a "bad" day, it reminded me that those birthdays as a child are unforgettable and I hope my children have similar memories of their birthdays when they are grown.

Here's a cute Youtube video to watch
